Biography

Pieter was raised in a traditional Afrikaner home with the Bible at the centre of his upbringing. His initial encounter with evolution was at university. As evolution was taught uncritically, for a time, he was swayed in a direction towards theistic evolution. But later while pursuing a BSc (Hons) he was exposed to creation literature which renewed his confidence in the historicity of the Genesis account of creation.

In 2000 he obtained a Higher Education Diploma through the Foundation for Cross-Cultural Education (FCE) and subsequently taught in England and Taiwan. On his return to South Africa he pursued an MSc in Zoology at the University of the Free State and completed his studies in 2007. From 2008 he taught at various primary and secondary government schools in South Africa.

Pieter loves working with young people and considers teaching high school biology to be the best job in the world! But since 1999 he has also desired to share the creation message with others. In 2014 the Lord set Pieter’s feet upon a new path resulting in his becoming an accredited speaker and Ministry Coordinator for Creation Ministries International in 2016.

Pieter is well aware of the adverse effects of evolutionary teachings so evident among young people in countries where it has been taught in schools for decades. Hence it is Pieter’s desire to assist parents to enable their children to think through questions about origins and to reach young people in the churches in South Africa with a message to encourage them that they may have confidence in God’s Word and grow in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Pieter and his wife Nadia (a medical doctor) live in Wolseley in the Western Cape. They have three young daughters.
